LEELA
ANSWERS SOME FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT DIABETIVISION
Q Where will my counseling sessions be held?
A Leela will travel to your home and provide counseling and
teaching right in your own environment.
Because many people who are facing vision loss have transportation
issues, this is one way that DiabetiVision can make it easier for you to
receive the counseling and teaching you need.
Q How far do you travel for these home visits?
A Leela’s business office is located in Ann Arbor, Michigan
and home visits are provided up to 90 miles away from this location. However, if you are in need of diabetes
counseling services and you live outside this area, please contact
DiabetiVision as special arrangements may be able to be made. Additionally, DiabetiVision may be able
to refer you to another specialist in your area who could provide
assistance.
Q How long will a counseling session
last?
A The initial home visit with
DiabetiVision typically lasts two hours.
Additional counseling and teaching sessions usually last one to two
hours.
Q Can I have family members present at my DiabetiVision
sessions?
A Family members are welcome to attend
any counseling or teaching sessions.
In fact, it is sometimes beneficial for family members to learn
adapted diabetes management skills right along with you. As well, all family members are affected
when one person has diabetes and supportive counseling may be helpful for
the family.
There also may be times when you want to meet alone with
your counselor. As counseling sessions progress, it may be necessary to evaluate who
should be present and where sessions should occur. Assessing the counseling
progress is an on-going process. Decisions about changes will be made
through open discussions, clear communication, and careful goal setting.
